Our family thalis at Katani Dhaba — rice, dal, curry, raita and a creamy paneer side dish on a warm wooden table.

Some days are made special by food, family and a simple change of place. Today we all went to Katani Dhaba together, and it turned into a warm, happy day that I want to remember. The dhaba had a cozy feel with wooden tables and a busy, welcoming smell of spices in the air. We found a good spot, sat close together, and looked forward to a big meal.

When the thalis arrived, the table looked so full and colourful. Each steel thali had neat sections — soft white rice mixed with small vegetables, a bowl of dark dal with cream on top, a fresh vegetable curry with peas and carrots, a cool white raita with coriander leaves, and a creamy paneer dish in a small bowl on the side. Everything looked hot, fresh and homemade. My mouth watered just looking at it.

I started with a little rice and dal. The dal was smooth and rich, with a gentle taste of butter and spices. Then I tried the vegetable curry, which had a nice mix of flavours and was not too spicy. The raita was cool and fresh, perfect between the warm dishes. I also took a spoon of the creamy paneer dish from the shared bowl. It was soft, mildly spiced, and went beautifully with the rice. Every bite felt comforting, like food made with care.

What made the meal even better was the family around the table. My mother smiled as she watched everyone eat. My aunt passed the small bowls around so nobody had to reach too far. We teased each other about who would finish their thali first, and we laughed when someone dropped a little dal on the table. These small, silly moments are what make family meals so much fun. No phone, no hurry — just us, talking and eating together.

As I ate, I looked at the steel plates and the wooden table. The dhaba was simple, but it felt honest. The food was not fancy, but it was full of flavour. The rice was warm, the dal was thick, and the raita gave a cool balance to everything. I felt grateful for days like this, when ordinary food becomes special because of the people you share it with. I ate slowly, wanting the meal to last a little longer.

By the end, my stomach was full and my heart was light. We sat back, rested for a few minutes, and talked about coming back again. I watched everyone looking happy and satisfied, and I felt a warm kind of peace. Days like this do not need big plans or expensive gifts. A dhaba meal, a full table, and family who laughs with you — that is more than enough. I will remember this day at Katani Dhaba as a day of simple food, good talk, and a lot of love.
