Every morning has its own small ritual, and mine begins with a cup of black coffee. There is something peaceful about holding a warm mug in both hands and feeling the steam rise slowly. On 22 July, the morning was soft and quiet. I sat on my bed, wrapped in a comfortable blue sheet, and took the first sip. The coffee was strong, bitter, and exactly the way I like it. No sugar, no milk, just the rich brown taste that wakes me up gently.
I took a photo of my mug because the moment felt worth keeping. My nails were painted bright red, and the white mug looked pretty against the blue bedsheet. Behind me, the door was open and sunlight was coming through the hallway. It was one of those simple scenes that makes you feel calm inside. I added a small note on the picture — 'have a lovely Tuesday' — because Tuesdays should also feel special, even if they are ordinary.
Black coffee is not just a drink for me. It is a small pause before the day begins. Before the messages, the tasks, and the noise of the world, there are a few quiet minutes just for myself. I do not need music or television. The sound of the fan, the warmth of the cup, and the slow sips are enough. It gives me time to think about what I want to do and how I want to feel.
Some people say black coffee is too strong or too bitter. But I think that is what makes it honest. It does not hide behind sugar or cream. The taste is direct and clear, just like the start of a new day should be. When I drink it, I feel more awake, not only in my body but also in my mind. My thoughts become clearer, and small problems feel easier to handle.
My mother sometimes asks why I do not add milk like she does. I smile and tell her that I like it this way. Everyone has their own morning comfort. For her, it is tea with ginger. For my sister, it is a cold glass of juice. For me, it is this dark, warm drink in a simple white mug. We do not have to agree on the drink, but we all understand the feeling — the need for something familiar before the day starts.
There is also something nice about making black coffee at home. The sound of water boiling, the smell of coffee grounds, and the gentle pouring into the cup — all of it feels like a small ceremony. It does not take long, but it slows me down. In a world that always wants us to hurry, those few minutes matter. They remind me that I can choose how to begin my morning.
After I finish my coffee, I feel ready. The day may bring work, errands, or unexpected things, but at least I started it well. I wash the mug and place it back on the shelf, already looking forward to tomorrow morning. Because no matter what happens, I know there will be another cup waiting for me.
So here is to slow starts, warm mugs, and quiet Tuesdays. My day starts with black coffee, and because of that, it starts with a little bit of peace.
