Joule is SAP's copilot. You type a question in plain language and it answers using your business data, your role and your authorisations. That last part is the interesting bit — a general chatbot has no idea whether you are allowed to see a cost centre. Joule does.
What it is good at today
- Navigation: 'show me open purchase orders for plant 1000' lands you in the right app with the right filter.
- Explanation: summarising why a document is blocked or what a field means.
- Drafting: job descriptions, supplier messages, summaries of long documents.
- Analysis in context: comparing periods without building a report first.
Where it stops
Joule works with what SAP exposes to it. Heavily customised Z-processes, undocumented enhancements and data sitting in spreadsheets outside the system remain invisible. That is not a flaw in the copilot; it is a reflection of the landscape.
What to learn first
- How your organisation's roles and authorisations are designed.
- Which apps in your area are Fiori-based already.
- How your master data quality looks in the objects you query most.
SAP professionals who know their process deeply get the most out of Joule, because they know when to trust the answer.
