Enterprise technology looks like a technical field from outside. From inside, most of the difficulty is human.
Data quality decides everything
The most elegant design collapses on inconsistent master data. Every project that skipped that conversation paid for it later, with interest.
Someone must own the process
Not a system, a person. Where ownership is unclear, decisions loop, and the technology gets blamed for the indecision.
Simple survives
- Standard beats clever, because standard gets upgraded.
- Fewer exceptions beats a perfect exception handler.
- A short document that people read beats a thorough one they do not.
Explain it so a new joiner understands it in five minutes, and you have designed it well.
That is the thread running through everything I write here: complexity is easy to create and expensive to keep.
